Dzian Gallery's Local Artist Series
August 2019:
Devon Westland
Thank you to those who came out to the reception on August 3rd!
About the Artist
Devon Westland is a self-taught artist. He has a condition known as 'synesthesia', which is where more than one sense intertwines with another sense at the same time, creating reactions such as; tasting voices, smelling sounds, and hearing light. It is the primary motivator in all of his creative endeavors, which range from not only his paintings, but creations such as writing poetry and lyricism, to designing apparel and film. His favorite medium is oil on canvas created by using palette knives. He primarily focuses his paintings around the sun and water, and uses them to bring more light and movement into his works. Most of his painting ideas come directly from his mind, and are created with a lot of focused aggression and passion.
Dzian Gallery is primarily home to non-local, nationally recognized artists, but we featured some local artists during the summer of 2019!
July 2019:
Gregory Dolnikowski
Thank you to those who came out to the reception on July 27th!
About the Artist:
Gregory G. Dolnikowski is a research scientist at Tufts University. His genre-spanning artwork includes portraits, seascapes, abstract paintings and photography. Much of Dolnikowski’s maritime-themed work explores the unending liminal space where sea meets sky. Dolnikowski’s paintings capture both the exuberant and reflective moments of maritime culture as well as the complex apparatus of sailboats and sailing ships. Additionally, Dolnikowski’s series of acrylic on canvas abstracts capture the moments of both anticipation and discovery when science collides with emotion. The pieces are largely created in-and-of-the moment and reward careful observers with their dazzlingly lucid complexity.
